Reflection on Standard #1

Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity

• Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. Teachers:
A. promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness.
B. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.
C. promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.
D. model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments.

Standard number one, to facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity is one of the most important for teachers to know and understand. The students learn from the teacher, therefore we have to encourage them and guide them through their academic career. Technology is difficult at times, so therefore hands on experience and face to face approach works the best when teaching technology. Students would learn more if they collaborate and work together which is usually done under the teacher supervision and inside a classroom setting. For example, we could teach our students how to engage, explore, and create material in order for them to study. The concept map is a great visual aide and a student can make one in order to keep all their facts organized, precise, and visually appealing. They could also use some simple web tools such as Microsoft office in order to create a spreadsheet or data sheet in order to keep their information organized. Students will model what we teach them if it is exciting and help them gain the knowledge of the material that is being taught.
